Lets face it folks, before we know it, GOD willing, another summer shall pass. You know, months go by so quickly you have to wonder where they went. Truly, time does fly. Even scripture describes life and its fleeting nature:
For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeared for a little time, and then vanisheth away. James 4:14
This truth ought to cause us to consider our allotment of time on earth. GOD has given each of us "X" amount of years to use at our discretion.
Well, there is simply no denying it. As the clock counts down life seems to continually mount up with intensity and complexity, making it just "plain" difficult to keep up. It comes as no surprise on occasion moments within the rush of life we forget all about time stewardship.
I guess its a matter of conscientious priorities. If our priority is on all that we see, then our hourly focus will be on this life. If our priority is on the eternal, then our hourly focus will extend beyond this life. Frankly, after witnessing 48yrs. of this world's antics, its not even a contest,..... a no brainier, - we all should choose the eternal focus.
But how?
There's an old hymn that goes like this ----
I'd rather have Jesus than silver and gold,
I'd rather be His - than have riches untold,
I'd rather have Jesus than houses or lands,
I'd rather be led by his nail pierced hands,...
than to be the king of a vast domain,
or be held in sins dread sway,
I'd rather have Jesus than anything
this world affords today.
I must confess that when our focus becomes as this great hymn depicts , then our time will instinctively become consumed by serving Christ with our every waking breath and action.
The equation is this;
I know this what I long for - don't you?
Friend, one day all things that we see, the Bible says, will be gone, what then? If your focus has been wrong, your life and eternity will be forever wrong. If our focus has been right, if our lives are found in Christ, then our life and eternity will be right.
Go beyond the affairs of this life, aspire to the eternal. Seek Christ while He still may be found, and find peace for your soul.
